FORTIS

FORTIS focuses on providing a complete Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) solution that includes multi-modal communication and multi-aspect interaction. The goal is to develop a human-centric solution that addresses the needs of both the human workforce and the robots, allowing them to work together efficiently and safely. With cutting-edge research and advanced technology, this solution can help to mitigate the negative effects of an aging workforce on employment, working conditions, and welfare in the EU. The project will conduct three main pilots in the sectors of construction, infrastructure services, and manufacturing. Moreover, FORTIS will allocate a portion of the budget to finance pilots that allow civilians to interact with the robots in different settings, such as healthcare, public events, shopping centres, and grocery stores. This will provide an opportunity to evaluate the performance of the HRI solution in various real-world scenarios.

SEE PROJECT

OPENSWARM

Low-power wireless technology tends to be used today for simple monitoring applications, in which raw sensor data is reported periodically to a server for analysis. The ambition of the OpenSwarm project is to trigger the next revolution in these data-driven systems by developing true collaborative and distributed smart nodes, through groundbreaking R&I in three technological pillars: efficient networking and management of smart nodes, collaborative energy-aware Artificial Intelligence (AI), and energy-aware swarm programming.

SEE PROJECT

FEROX

The FEROX project aims to utilize advances in AI, data, and robotics to improve the working conditions of the wild berry pickers. The project will employ autonomous drones equipped with various sensors to acquire data, build 3D models of the forests and, therefore, accurately estimate berries’ locations, amount and types.  The holistic solution of FEROX will contribute to the overall safety of the workers by automatically monitoring the pickers and providing aid where it is needed.

SEE PROJECT

5GSMARTFACT

5GSmartFact is an MSCA-ITN project funded by the EU whose objective is to study, develop, optimize and assess the deployment of 5G networks that target the IIoT requirements (in terms of availability, ultra-low latency, reliability, amount of supported devices, localization accuracy and energy efficiency) in factory environments, and exploit them to integrate factory applications (especially those related to robot-control and robot navigation) which might lead to a complete redesign of robot architectures and hence to a leap forward in the industry automation.

SEE PROJECT

RAIL-O-BOT

RAIL-O-BOT’s paves the way towards a new generation of affordable field heavy-duty robots, prioritizing the research and technological developments within the domain of vegetation management in railways. The developed technology aims for progressively lower system costs by using an in-house automatized commercial-off-the-shelf compact track loader, denoted as Ranger, rather than a fully-built custom robot. The Ranger has been designed as a forestry mulcher to autonomously remove forest debris, within the context of the SEMFIRE project, which provides the starting point for RAIL-O-BOT.

SEE PROJECT

SAFEFOREST

SAFEFOREST (Semi-Autonomous Robotic System for Forest Cleaning and Fire Prevention) deals with the development of innovative prevention of wildland and wildland-urban interface (WWUI) fires, through advanced robotic fire protection prevention activities. The project intends to drastically reduce the costs associated with the maintenance of private or public forests, namely near houses as well as the protection of wide corridors used as fuel breaks and corridors near critical infrastructures (roads, railways, telecommunication lines and antennas, electric utility lines) in order to control and reduce the propagation of large forest fires.

SEE PROJECT

Ingeniarius

SEMFIRE

SEMFIRE (Safety, Exploration and Maintenance of Forests with the Integration of Ecological Robotics) proposes the development of a support robotic system to reduce fuel accumulation (e.g., forest debris), thus assisting in landscaping maintenance tasks. This is an application domain with an unquestionable beneficial impact at the economic, social and environmental level, as the proposed project will contribute by significantly reducing wildfire hazard potential.

SEE PROJECT

Ingeniarius

STOP

The STOP project aims to increase the acceptance of mobile robotics technologies in the area of services, focusing on the installation of teams of mobile robots in large indoor spaces frequented by people (e.g., large stores, common areas of shopping centres, offices and services, museums, etc.) to autonomously carry out patrolling and surveillance missions.

SEE PROJECT

Ingeniarius

EL-STEM

EL-STEM aims at fostering an innovation “ecosystem” that will facilitate more effective and efficient user-centric design and use of AR/MR resources for personalised STEM learning and teaching. Motivating EU students to choosing STEM studies & careers and improving their performance in courses related to STEM education. A carefully formed consortium that includes partners originating from both EU countries that have made significant progress in reducing gaps in student achievement.

ARCANE

The main goal of the ARCANE project is to propose a framework that may promote an augmented perception of team performance in sports. In this project, the football will be used as a task vehicle due to its undeniable worldwide popularity. The framework shall be used to provide an interpretation of athletes’ positional and physiological data during performance, proposing new methods to assess athletes on-the-fly and, to some extent, predict the health and performance outcomes.
