TraXports solutions was designed to benefit athlete’s performance and safety in competitive atmosphere and to improve their career and team progression. TraXports is a wearable device that provides players’ position, in real-time and over the internet virtually anywhere (indoor and outdoor), by merging data from a ultra-wide band (UWB) wireless technology with an inertial measurement unit (IMU).

TraXports is a wearable solution based on ultra-wide band (UWB) wireless technology, in which both mobile devices (tags) and stationary base stations (anchors) are IEEE standard 802.15.4-2011 UWB compliant.

Multiple wireless measures are used to estimate distances between stationary stations and mobile devices, without the need of any global positioning system (GPS). These estimated distances are then used as inputs for the proposed real-time location system (RTS), by benefiting from multilateration techniques.

TraXports also encompasses an inertial measurement unit (IMU) to not only improve players’ position estimation using Kalman filters, but to also provide an estimation of players’ orientation in the field. Only four anchors are required to estimate players’ position, thus minimizing the setup time and complexity of the overall system. This combined solution is able to provide a high positional accuracy in the tens of centimetres, under both indoor and outdoor scenarios, with a frequency update of 30Hz.
